The beginning
The tradition began in 1991 when brothers Carlo and Antonio Giovannini paired with Roberto Bernardoni and opened Trattoria La Strada. Utilizing their collective knowledge of running exclusive fine dining restaurants and a combined fifty years of culinary experience, they opened Trattoria La Strada, the first privately-owned Italian restaurant on Fifth Avenue.
The traditions
Surrounded by Horton Plaza and the San Diego Convention Center, the restaurant proved to be an instant success and quickly distinguished itself for its unique Tuscan cuisine and innovative décor. With its elegant and upscale setting and authentic Tuscan menu, La Strada has since become a favorite of local San Diegans as well as visitors to the downtown area. The combination of traditional European service, a knowledgeable staff, historic location, beautiful decor, and excellent food make dining at Trattoria La Strada a "gastronomic experience".
The menu
La Strada’s menu is based on authentic Tuscan tradition, presenting dishes that emphasize quality ingredients and classical preparation. Executive Chef Roberto Bernardoni brings almost thirty years of culinary experience seeped in the Florentine traditions, while his wife, Patrizia, brings an innovative style and fresh approach to the kitchen. Since its inception, La Strada’s cuisine has evolved to its present high standard of quality, consistency and innovation.
